Default Imported dates

I have a huge list of dates that I have imported. Some of them prior to 2000
and some are post 2000. They are in this form 03/22/1999, and 03/23/2001. How
do I get excel to recognize these as dates and not text.

Say the "text" dates are in column A. Select column A and pull down:

Data Text to Columns... Next Next check Data and pick the correct
format.
