Default Excel 2003: Error with date formatting

Hi,

Everytime I enter dates into my spreadsheet it converts is into US format.
I have checked my Regional & Language Options on the Control Panel - the
location says Australia (correct) and I have also formatted the 'date' cells
as English (Australian).
Can anyone help me on this annoying problem.

Thanks,
Kerryn
