Default Date incorrect in excel

For some reason that has just started....When I type a date into Excel the
year comes up wrong . For example when I type in March 1....and press
enter....it comes up March 1, 2017 instead of 2006.

I have tried reinstalling to no avail......any thoughts?

Insure that your Windows settings are correct:

Start Settings Control Panel Date and Time

The System Date is fine.......

When I type in March 7, hit enter...it looks like Mar-07 in the cell...if I
click on the cell and look at the formula bar the date looks like
01-03-07.........
