Default Why does Excel close all workbooks?

Running O2003. If you hit the X in the upper right-hand corner to close
Excel, it closes all open workbooks. This is different and I can't get use
to it. If you hit the big X in Word, it only closes the active window. Is
there a setting I've missed in Excel?

No.

It's just that excel and msword behave differently.
