Default default format for Excel numbers

Whenever I enter numbers they display like they are divided by 100. I.E.
enter 256 and display = 2.56. I've checked the format cell, worksheet, etc
but nothing seems to work. Somehow my Excel has changed its Default
Formatting. How can I get it back to NORMAL? Thanks

Assuming you're using Excel 2007, Click on the Office button -- Excel
Options -- Advanced. Remove the check mark from the second item on the
list - "Automatically insert a decimal Point".

If 2003 or earlier................

ToolsOptionsEdit.....uncheck "fixed decimal places"

This is a handy feature for Accountants but not for the rest of us.
