Default The column names (A,B,C, etc...) changed to numbers??????????

I opened a spreadsheet I hadn't opened in a while and all the column names
(usually letters) are numbers now. I tired openeing a blank sheet but this
setting is applied to all of them.

How do I change it back!!! I'm working with formulas and cell references and
this format is impossible.

Thanks

Tools|Options|General Tab|Uncheck R1C1 Reference style
(and save the workbook)

But remember how you changed this. Excel picks this setting up from the first
workbook it opens in that session.

So if you're unlucky and open one of those workbooks that was saved in R1C1
reference style, you'll have to do it again.
