hi
the clipboard is a window function not an excel function. the clipboard is available to all applications. when windows starts, it sets asilde some of your computer's memory for use as temporary storage. it may or may not be the same each time you start your computer. see this site for more info http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1246 the amout of data stored on the clipboard can effect performance so it's a good idea to keep the clipboard a free as possible. if you have copied a large amount of data to the clipboard and if it is no longer needed on the clipboard, you should delete it from the clip board. most gui's usually have a clipboard viewer to help manage the clipboard perticularly when the clipboard manager allows for multiple items on the clipboard. in XP, it's editoffice clipboard on the menu bar. i am not sure if the backup of your files is effecting your performance because backup does not (or should not) use the clipboard. if your backup method is using the clipboard, i would look into changing your back up method. another thing that effects performance is the windows swap file sometimes call the page file. this is virtual memory where windows uses a protion of the hard disk for tempoary storage much like the clipboard. performance can be increased by increasing the size of the swapfile. see this site from more on the swap file. regards FSt1 "Subu" wrote: Dear Members Where does Ms XL store the clipboard ? or where does MS Windows store clipboard ? Vital Stats : - Using a Win XP Machine - using medium sized (100 rows, 20 column) sp sheets on MS Excel 2003 (MS Office 2003) My Machine is networked so that "my documents" directory is backed up on a server automatically I face problems while copying (some error messages re. clipboard etc) I suspect that it has something to do with the backing up of my documents or standard files I also see some reduction in speed .... any pointers on precautions to take on networked computers is welcome any help / pointers would be appreciated regards subu |
