Default why does a formula not total right?

I have say =sum(E1+G3)
E1 = $10.00
G3 = 8
The cell I put this formula in comes up (2 or 3) cents off.
This does not happen all the time but off & on.

Sounds like one of the cells contains the small cents values but they don't
show because of formatting.....
