I am trying to create a spreadsheet in Excell and want to lock the formula
cells to they cannot be typed over accidently destroying the function??

By default all cells are locked when the sheet is protected.

Hit CRTL + A(twice if xl2003) then FormatCellsProtection. Uncheck "locked"
and OK.

Select the cells you wish to lock and FormatCellsProtection. Check "locked"
and OK.

Now ToolsProtectionProtect Sheet. This is mandatory!!

You can set a password to unprotect. These can easily be broken in Excel but
will keep your formulas from being accidentally overwritten.

Hi Bob

Choose ToolsProtectionProtect Sheet - you can use a password or leave it
blank. (If you do use a password, write it down to remember it!!).
Protecting a sheet mean cells which are locked cannot be overwritten.

Cells are Locked as the Default setting.

Before you protect the sheet, select the cells which you require the user to
enter data and FormatCellsProtection and remove the tick from Locked.

Passwords in Excel are not totally secure. They will deter the in
experienced user, but there are plenty of readily available password
crackers available for those who wish to break them.
