Default Handling internet addresses

Is here a simple way to format a cell which contains an email address as
pure text - That is, so that clicking on the cell won't bring up the email
program to open a new email?

Copy an empty cell, select the addresses (select with the arrow keys), do
editpaste special and select add
if you mean when entering an address, just precede entry with ' apostrophe
