How are you hiding the columns?

It sounds like you might be adding columns or moving cells to the right to
hide them from the view.
If you have items in Column IV you can not do this.

If you are doing it as<format<columns<hide
about howmany times do you do it before you have the problem.
(I cant make it happen on my computer)

If you are doing it another way, What is it?

I highlight the cells I wish to hide by dragging the mouse across the column
headings, rightclick and choose the hide option, I have only got to cells BU
at present before I get the "cannot shift" error message

regards Craig

I still have not been able to duplicate your problem.
If you save the file at that point and reopen it, does it still not allow
you to hide more columns?

Do you have macros which do anything on action?
Is the initial set up done by a macro?

When you first start up if you <edit<goto<special "last cell" does it
goto column IV.
When you have hidden some columns ,before it locks up., does it goto the
same cell. once it wont let you hide any more will it still go to the same
cell?

As you can probably tell, I am going fishing cause I do not know what is
causing your problem.
