At least now he has a backup - the copy he gave to you.
Sometimes a circular reference is created intentionally - not the wisest thing to do, but I've done it myself and have seen others do it on purpose. When you do find the problem, you may want to determine if it was done on purpose or not. If it was done on purpose, then I'd look first for a way to do it without the circular reference, and that is not feasible, then you can inhibit that warning with a setting in Excel Tools Options -- but NOT until after you make the determination of whether or not the circular reference was created on purpose. Your file contained several unintentional circular references, and 1 funny
one. In both the 08 and 09 sheets, the SUM formulae on row 130 was faulty, viz =SUM(D127:D130), iso D127:D129. Since row 130 is the total row, just change this back to 129, then copy right across to the end. There is also an alleged circular reference in P110, which is in fact not a circular reference. It reads =SUM(D110:O110). To fix this, select the cell, press <F2, and press <Enter To get help tracing these errors, on the formula tab, in the Formula Auditing section, click on Trace Dependents, and then on Circular references. It will show you one after the other circular reference. As I say, even if it starts with P130. redo all formulae on that row, it will save you a lot of time. -- HTH Kassie Replace xxx with hotmail "NeiLi" wrote: When I open my exel file .. this pop-up open .. circular reference warning one or more formulas contain a circular reference and may not calculate correctly. circular references are any references within a formula that depend upon the results of that same formula. for example, a cell that refers to its own value or a cell that refers to another cell which depends on the original cell's value both contain circular references. for more information about understanding, finding, and removing circular references, click ok. if you wnat to create a circular reference, click cencel to continue That file was my friend's financial file. { very very important for him.Because of no backup! }He asked me to repair his file but I don't have enough experience for that error.
