Default applying dropdown list entry to multple cells

Is there a way to get the entry from a dropdown list to apply to multple
cells? All the selected cells have the same list set in their validation
rules, but simply selecting many cells and picking from the list in one does
not work.

Select your cells, select the value on one drop down, then press F2 and
Ctrl-Enter.
