Unfortunately, there is no way of manually entering the data into the
database. That being said, simple filters should work for you, so long as you are consistent on your data entry. For example: Row 1 would be your headers, such as: A1: Magazine B1: Date (or issue #) C1: Song that is transcribed D1: Lesson E1: Theory etc. After entry, click in cell A2, and go to Window|Freeze Panes, as this will lock your header row. Then after you enter, filter as needed, and your magazine along with date or issue number should be easily found. -- John C "fetzer" wrote: I don't know if this is possible in Excel or not but will ask. I teach Guitar lessons and have several different subscriptions to 5 or 6 different guitar oriented magazines which all feature lessons and transcriptions to songs. Two of these magazines I have accrued every single issue for the better part of 20 years. I have students who continually ask how to play a certain song or inquire about different topics about guitar theory. I have a book of notes that list the transcriptions by magazine as well as artist, as well as, every article pertaining to the different types of theory offered. If there is something I need to read up on or search for an article or song I have to dig thru all of my notes. I would like to enter all of this information into Excel. I'm sure a program like Access would be more beneficial but would like to see if at all possible this information could be entered into a spreadsheet. When asked about learning a particular song or some type of theory, I could then do a search in Excel and it would hopefully list which magazine, as well as by month and year the information would be located. Any information would be appreciated. Doug -- fetzer |
