Default How do I stop from converting numbers (e.g 3-30) into dates

I'm trying to enter records into a spreadsheet. everytime i Try to use a
dash, it converts into a date

Either pre-format the input column as text (via FormatCells)
Or precede the data entry with an apostrophe
