I am trying to create a 24-hour staffing schedule but I cannot figure out how
to automate the process.

There are 7 overlapping 12-hour shifts with two work groups A & B. A works
3 12 hour days with 4 off then works 4 12-hour days with 3 days off. B works
when A is off.

I am cannot figure out a formula to get excel to do the following:

Place the number of people working from say 3pm-3am when there are 4 shift
that work during that time.


I have almost no experience with excel and it may be too much to get here
but thought I'd ask.

Scheduling is not a simple task, and if you have googled 'Excel Scheduling' few are available for free.

Hi excel moron,

Recently a young guy at work proudly showed me a broken dial
gauge that he had repaired. I admit that he had done a very good
job of it and his solution was quite ingenious.

Unfortunately, he was rather dismayed when I explained to him
that his charge out rate to the business is $70 an hour (not what he gets
of course), but he had just spent $420 to repair a gauge that I could
have thrown in the bin and replaced for $200.

I may be way of the mark here, but I think your situation sounds very
similar,

Your A&B pattern will always mean respective teams will have the same
recurring days off i.e. one of the teams will never get a weekend off
ever, while the other always gets long weekends off. Do they really
want to do that? To rota days off across days of the week your day-on-
day-off ratio must < 7.
