Default Excel 2000 and Excel 2003 in Office 2003

1. An excel 2000 file can take long time to open in Office 2003. Excel file,
which is in Office 2000 version, had formatted for our official requirements
and contains basically macro and formula. But, when try to open in Office
2003, it takes long time around 5-7 mins.
2. Doing put some data in worksheets of that file (in office 2003
environment) and minimize or close without save/with save and few minutes
later try to open or maximize that file - it shows a message "Unable to read
the data". All formated data partially lost.

Pls provide a solution in this regards.
