What's wrong with this formula?
I'm using Excel97. When you look up the built in help for the LEFT
function, at the bottom it explains that you can use this and the LEN function to correct numbers posted like this 8.41- to this -8.41. When I copy the formula and paste into my spreadsheet, adjusting A2 for my actual cell references, the formula doesn't work. What gives? The formula is: LEFT(A2,LEN(A2)-1)*-1 Is it something with copying the formula from the help page? Thanks for any help. |

What's wrong with this formula?
My guess is that there's nothing wrong with the formula (besides the missing
leading equal sign). What's in A2? Try typing it it once more (manually). Maybe you got extra spaces (or those HTML non-breaking spaces) in A2???? JHL wrote: I'm using Excel97. When you say doesn't work, what happens?

Typing it manually worked.
