Default change birthday display from mm/dd/yyyy to HIDE the yyyy?

The column of birthdays have the year included. I want the year portion of
the (birth)date to go away. I tried to Format in the mm/dd style then Copy,
Paste Special - Values... but it still maintains the year in the cell.
Although it is not visible on the spreadsheet, a person could simply look at
the top and see the year. Any ideas?

You may use this formula:
=TEXT(A1,"mm/dd")
