in need of a formula
hi, i'm running a 'world cup' competition at work and need some help. here is my first prob. i have one worksheet with all the world cup fixtures on it which will be used as a master to enter the results as they happen(sheet name 'group results master') each person taking part will have thier own predictions sheet in which they will enter thier predictions for each match(sheet name ' pred j bloggs') on the prediction sheets i have 2 columns, one for 'match result', and one for 'correct score'. what i would like if possible is: when i enter a result for a game on the 'master', the cell in 'match result' column looks at the prediction, and then checks the master to see if correct, and to return a value of 2, if correct and 0, if incorrect. i need a simular thing to happen in the 'correct score' column, but this one will have to check to see if the score on the master is the same as the score on the prediction sheet, and then return a value of 5, if correct and 0, if incorrect.(all the scores for teams will be placed in individual cells) i hope someone can understand what i'm trying to do here, and help me out. many thanks, Mark. -- boufant ------------------------------------------------------------------------ boufant's Profile: http://www.excelforum.com/member.php...o&userid=24725 View this thread: http://www.excelforum.com/showthread...hreadid=525525 |

in need of a formula
It might be easier once you have your master sheet with all the
fixtures on it to just copy this sheet to make a "master predictions sheet" which once fully set up can then be copied for each of your participants. That way, if the first game's result is in cell D6, for example, it will be in the same cell on all the other sheets, so it will make it easier to construct formulae to compare the prediction with the actual. You could print this out to act as a Data Capture document for your friends to fill in - it will make it easier to record each player's predictions. You only need to enter the score for both teams - the result can be worked out from this and return codes such as H, A or D for Home win (first team listed being the home team), Away win or Draw. The same formula can be included in the predictions sheets (based on the predicted score), so again this is easier to compare with the actual result - your players would thus put in a predicted score only. I think you will need one summary sheet which will list all the participants and report on the (game) scores from their individual sheet. Quite a nice little project - hope these comments help.
