excel2000 have entered dates on a spread sheet but dates have changed to
sequential numbers how can i retrieve or get the original dates back to the
spread sheet

Try formatting the cells as dates
format|cells|number tab|Date category

Or if you see formulas (instead of what they evaluate to):
tools|options|view|uncheck formulas.

(this'll fix the display of the dates at the same time.)
