Bar code fonts are not only tricky to use, they also produce very porr
quality bar codes that can be difficult to read. Bar codes incorporate special start and stop codes as well as check digits that must be calculated. You cannot simply select text and change its font to a bar code font and get a readable bar code. Code 39 is the only bar code symbology where you can use a bar code font without having to write code however you have to add an asterisk * character at the beginning and end of the message that you want to encode in the bar code font before you apply the font. In any case, the best way to add bar codes to an Excel spreadsheet is to use a bar code ActiveX control instead of a bar code font. The best one on the market is available from TAL Technologies. You can download a demo version at: http://www.taltech.com/support/bcax/index.html The demo comes with a sample Excel spreadsheet that shows how to insert the ActiveX control in a worksheet.
