Default How do I restore column & row cell references

When I open a workbook, my column headers display as numbers rather than the
alpha characters. When I build formulas, the cell reference is for example
RC(-1). How can a restore the colums in my workbook to display as A, B, C...
and cells to show as A2, etc?
