Default When pasting PDF to Excel why does it sometimes past into multico.

If I copy a section of text in an adobe acrobat sheet and paste it into
excel, sometimes it puts all the data into one column and sometimes it pastes
it into lots of columns. Often it gets it right without me telling it which I
wanted, but then it just continues pasting whichever way it ended up doing
it! I can't seem to find a manual way of stopping a multicolumn paste.
