Default Reference External Worksheets & Protect Worksheet / Workbook

I have multiple problems.

I am attempting to "link" multiple spreadsheets together with external
references to a main Excel workbook that contains all of my data and protect
the worksheets/workbooks so that others can use (enter data) these
spreadsheets without damaging formulas, etc. Once I complete the
"templates", I am emailing them to other locations for use. The templates
work fine on my computer.

Multiple problems are occurring:
1) Links are not maintained between the spreadsheets when they are received
on the other end. With the spreadsheets "protected", they cannot "re-link".
I understand that the spreadsheets need to maintain the same name and should
be kept in the same folder location but without giving the person the
password to "unprotect", they are unable to "relink"
2) When they return the files to me via email, the worksheet is still
attempting to reference the original spreadsheet (even though it shows
external source is not found in the links dialogue box). When I attempt to
break this link and "change source" to the newly downloaded version, I get
error messages saying that the report is "protected". In order to relink, it
appears EVERY worksheet in both reports must be "unprotected" in order to
relink.
3) When I do "change source", it appears to be attempting to keep the
original file AND the new source file linked. When I try to "break link"
with the original in this situation, I get an error message saying that the
cells I am trying to change, etc. ,etc., are protected....

Is there an easy workaround to this problem?
Is there a way to "unprotect" multiple worksheets at one time?
Is there a way to "relink" workbooks without unprotecting them?
Is there an easier way to "dump" the data (or parts of it) into another
workbook -- something the end user can perform that is fail safe?

Thanks!
