Default pivot tables

I would like to know if it is possible to use pivot tables to compare two
years data.

Each year spreadsheet consists of headed columns which I can use to create a
seperate table for each year however I would like to keep the same column
heading facility but import information from th previous year so that I can
produce a comarison table with all informtion on.

I very much appreciate any information you can give.

Maybe you could merge all your data, but include a column that indicates the
year.

Then you could drag that date field to the column field in your pivottable. It
might make it easier to look for differences.
