Default wrong year

When entering a date within an Excel cell such as, 11/14/05 it comes up with
11/14/2012 or November 14, 2012.
Clock and date on computer is correct
Cell format is for date.
What could be wrong and how do I fix the problem?

Perhaps try to avoid ambiguity by typing in the full year ("2005")
