Default Today() & Now() function

Why does Today() & Now() function show "Volatile" when I click in the formula
then click the "fx" in my worksheet?
Is it messing with my other formulas that use the Today() & Now() function?

Volatile mean that the function is calculated every time Excel
performs any calculation.
