In my spreadsheet I need to know when a negative balance such as ($5.00)
occurs.
I'am looking for a pull down box that will include text. This would be a
warning that the balance column doesn't contain enough dollars to cover the
checks written against this account.
When the error message pops up I would be alerted to add dollars in the
credit column or subtract dollars in the savings column. This would then show
a solvent account
Check No. Savings Debit Credit Balance
2358 $70.00 $50.00 $115.00 ($5.00)

Why not use conditional formatting for this.
