How do you update links

I consolidate management accounts on a monthly basis. Each month's management
accounts are saved in one folder. In the following month I receive new
management accounts and I save them in a new folder. Thereafter, I copy the
consolidated management accounts from the prior month "linked document" into
the new month's folder.

I then open the consolidated document and update links - Edit/Links/Change
source and click on the new source workbook. When click on the new source
workbook sometimes nothing happens and it some instances I get a message that
the formula is too long.

If you move the workbooks into folders that are not so deeply nested, does it
work ok?

(Try to make the path to those folders much smaller in length.)

I would think that would help with the error message. I'm not sure why your
links aren't updating.
