Default HOURS DIFFERENCE IN TIME BETWEEN DIFFERENT DATES AND TIMES

Start date and time is 9/12/05 06:35, finish date and time is 9/13/05 13:45.
TOTAL hours are 31 hrs 10 min. I tried different forulas and would only get 7
hrs 10 mins. excel kept leaving off the 24 hours. Is there someway I can get
excel to add the total hours without leaving off the 24.
