Default re-selection of Chart data range using keyboard

Greetings and TIA for your time,
I have Excel 2002 on XP
After right click on a chart/source data and then clicking on a data range
address box, it appears that the only way to modify the existing selection is
by dragging the mouse. When using Excel 97 on an NT workstation in the past
it was possible to select the data range by using the [shift], [end] and
[arrow] keys. This makes life much easier on larger data ranges. How do I
configure my setup so that these keys work in the chart/source data context?
