Default Formatting background colors

Is there a formula I can use to change the background colors on specific
cells? I want to change the color on the even rows of 4 columns (A:D) to
gray. I know I can click on the areas to do this, but it is so time
consuming. I hope this makes sense. Thanks for any assistance.
