Problem:
1. Excel pension personal file, supplied with linked template (X per cent per year of service, times peak salary etc., and three classes of deduction) presumably made with up to date Excel software (albeit in another language) 2. My available software is Quattro v.10 (preferred) Open Office (Star Office) current version Office 97 instal disk (software uninstalled 5 or 10 years ago.) I can read both the template and the data file individually in either Quattro or OO Calc, but they are not linked normally. Instructions to link them causes data entries to show 00.0. What is my best policy? A = attempt to rewrite both in Quattro (or OO). B = instal antique version of Excel just in case it can read them. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Excel_97 will be able to read .xls files, so re-installing that should
help you. When you open a file with external links Excel will ask if you want to update those links - you should answer no, as you don't have the files on your PC, and Excel will take the values that were used when the file was saved. Hope this helps.
