computer. It runs Windows xp and came with works, office, excel, etc... Now
when I am e-mailed a spreadsheet, I can't open it. I also need to be able to
create spreadsheets. I have tried to find free software downloads to either
get them back or totally reinstall works, but am having no luck. help! i'm
not very computer literate. thank you!

1) If the software (i.e. Excel/Word) were there when you got your machine you
should have also received the application CDs. Just pop them in the CD-Rom
and they should auto start.

2) If you have lost the CDs you can try and carry out a system restore and
see if that helps.
Start Programs Accessories System Tools System Restore.
Then click a bold date in the calender to take your PC back to a state when
you had the software.
Beware that if you installed new software after the date you have chosen
Windows XP will uninstall that. Data files (spreadsheets, doc) won't be
affected.

3) Try calling your PC retailer for assistance.

4) If you installed them using illegal copies....well can't help you there.

thank you for answering me. unfortunately, i have lost the cd's that came
with my computer. also, my restore points only go back a couple of months and
spreadsheets have been gone for about 6. i've only just now gotten a job
where i will need them. i bought the computer from wal-mart. so i'm afraid
that i'll only be able to bite the bullet and buy a newer office or excel to
get them back unless there's a way to restore earlier. but, thank you for
your help!
