Default does Excel 07 allow User Defined functions?

I'm trying to use a macro to create a SpellNumber function in Excel. I can't
find a User Defined category.
Is there any other way to convert dollar values to words (i.e., 15.50 to
fifteen dollars and fifty cents) - I want to use Excel to write checks.
thanks
