Hi,

I have a data set in excel and it has about 1000 projects each assigned to a
person (name).

Some times more than one projects are assigned to the same person (name).

I want to know how many times does any name appear in the list. I know I
could use auto filter nad count each the frequency of each specific name but
that is a manual process and takes too long.

Is there a way to just count the number of times a name appears in the data
set (column)?

Please help.

A pivot will deliver it in a matter of seconds. Create a pivot on the data,
then in Layout, just drag n drop the "Names" col header into both the ROW and
DATA areas (it'll display as Count in DATA). Click to finish. That's it. Hop
over to the pivot sheet, where you'll see the amazing results: a col of all
the unique names, with corresponding counts for each name adjacent to it.
Exactly what you seek.
