Default Conditional Formatting (I think?)

If the specific date is in cell A1, reference using absolute referencing:

=IF(B1$A$1,B1,"")

If the date is not in a cell, you could use

=IF(B1DATEVALUE("July 10, 2009"),B1,"")

Other than that, your question is a bit fuzzy around the edges...

Oh... and with Conditional Formatting, the Formula is option could use a
formula like

=B1$A$1

A better explanation of what you want to do would help us help you.

You need to be more specific.

compares differnt dates

What kind of comparison? Greater than? Less than? Equal? Same month? Same
year? Leap year?

Where are the dates you want to compare?

And most importantly, what should happen when the dates are compared? Your
subject line says conditional formatting so I'm assuming you might want to
change cell colors or something along those lines.

Default Conditional Formatting (I think?)

Suppose you want to change the fill color of all cells whose date is equal to
the date in cell C1. Suppose all those dates are in the range A1:A100

To conditionally format your cell(s):

In 2003:
1. Select the cells you want to format, A1:A100 in this example
2. Choose Format, Conditional Formatting
3. Choose Formula is from the first drop down
4. In the second box enter the formula:
=A1=$C$1
5. Click the Format button
6. Choose a color on the Patterns tab (or any available option)
7. Click OK twice.

In 2007:
1. Highlight all the cells on the rows you want formatted
2. Choose Home, Conditional Formatting, New Rule
3. Choose Use a formula to determine which cell to format
4. In the Format values where this formula is true enter the following
formula:
=A1=$C$1
5. Click the Format button and choose a format.
6. Click OK twice

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,
Shane Devenshire
