How do I get my Excel 2007 worksheet to go beyond 65536 rows?

I saved the workbook as a .xlsx before I even started creating a spreadsheet,
and I can't get any spreadsheet in the workbook to go beyond the old limits
of 65536. I thought 2007 automatically had row limits of over a million.

If you open a 'classic' workbook (ie pre Excel 2007), Excel goes into
compatibility mode.
The title bar displays this info
Once you have saved the file as an XLSX file you need to close and reopen
the file to get 2007 mode
best wishes
