Default linking problem with closed documents

I'm running Excel 2003 and I'm getting #Value errors on spreadsheet A that
links to Spreadsheet B, which are both in the same directory. If I open
spreadsheet B all the #Value errors go away and everything works fine. I
tried removing the links and reading them but this did not help. What is
weird is that all the SUM() equations work but it fails on all of the SUMIF()
equations. These spreadsheets were originally created in Office 97 and sill
work correctly in office 97 but fail in office 2003.
