Import external data link disappears
I create multiple Excel files using data from a single database in which the
data is updated daily. I use the "import external data" function to populate the Excel files and, in most cases, it works perfectly. However, I have 3 worksheets in which the "data refresh" icon grays out after 2 uses. As background, my daily reporting includes 4 files, each of which is a subset of my main data table. Each file is based on a select query which filters data for a specific workgroup (S1, S2, S3, S4). The first file, S1, works perfectly -- the data refresh icon is active every time. The other 3 files can only be refreshed twice. After that, I have to go back to the menu, import external data, select the query from the list in the popup box that appears, and click OK. As added background, I have had several occasions to completely re-do these data links. There have been several times when new columns have been added to the data table, requiring me to replace the query. But every single time, the original situation recurs -- the S1 file will maintain the link, and the others will not. I'm completely puzzled, have never seen a similar question here, and would welcome any enlightenment. |

Import external data link disappears
Hi,
I don't know what the problem is but you can record the query and then run it each time. That way at least the speed issuel is improved. -- If this helps, please click the Yes button Cheers, Shane Devenshire "DataFlunky" wrote: I create multiple Excel files using data from a single database in which the data is updated daily.
