Calculating Hours

I am trying to calculate the amount of hours for several days within one
spreadsheet and cannot get a sum. My columns a start time, end time, total
hours. When I try to calculate the sum using function icon or formula line, I
get zero. Any ideas? Thanks.

Possibly your "hours" look like time but are actually text.
To check, right click - Format select General ( do not OK)
If what you see is still the " time" tha, it is text
If it's a number ( like 0.125) then it's time.
If it's text, select an empty cell - input 1 - copy - Select all your
values - rught click - Paste special - Check multiply - OK
Now it should work
Beware that sum of hours 24 should be formatted as [h]:mm:ss
