Default format cell if date not current

I am trying to figure out if the date in a cell can be formatted to red if it
is a date that is prior to today's date.

Can this be done and if so, how?

Conditional Formatting (Format-Conditional Formatting) should be the
best thing.

"Formula Is" =(your cell)<today() <- evaluates to TRUE

Format... (change font color to Red)
