Default Sum() formula with Text

Is there a way to have a formula contain something like this:

=100+200+value("The second number came from xyz")
and have the formula just equal the 300. Value() doesn't work. Does
something? I do not want to use a comment.

Hi Mike

Use N():

=100+200+N("The second number came from xyz")
