Default referring to other worksheet

Hi - simple problem driving me nuts! I use multiple worksheets - the "main"
has values that I want to show up in other worksheets. I use the
=mainsheet!C68 to refer to cell C68 in mainsheet.
Trouble is sometimes instead of providing the value from mainsheet!C68, all
I get is the literal string '=mainsheet!C68' (without the quotes).
It happens only in a couple of cells - while other cells within the same
worksheet have no problem reading from the mainsheet. Any help would be much
appreciated! thanks!

Check if those problem cells are formatted as Text

If so, reformat them to something more appropriate, then press the F2 key
followed by the Enter key to 're-enter' the formula and apply the new
formatting
