Default excel text formula does not calculate after editing

It sounds like the cell is formatted as TEXT. Format the cell as General
then either type the formula or, if it's already in the cell, select the
cell and hit function key F2 then hit ENTER.

I have a simple formula =A16&","&TEXT(ROUND(e16,2),"0.00")
and it works very well and I've used that and variations extensively. If
I
copy to another cell it works well. Now however when I try to type the
formula into a cell or edit it after I've copied it all I get is the
formula
displayed - not the result.

Help, LK
