Default monthly spreadsheet- can not add date to inserted row

I have been keeping monthly spreadsheets for a small home business and have
always inserted rows and added more Dates and finances to the sheets. Today,
I added a row, but it will not let me enter the date. It keeps jumping back
to the start of the worksheet. PLEASE HELP!!!
