Hi everybody,
When entering a date into a cell without specifying a year, such as "2-28," Excel will put in the default value of "2/28/2008." Does anyone know how to make the default year something other than the current year? Thanks. |

If you enter something that looks like a date, but without a year, excel will
assume you mean the current year that your pc shows. So one way is to change your system date to a different year, do the data entry, then change the date back. oufan199 wrote: Hi everybody, When entering a date into a cell without specifying a year, such as "2-28," Excel will put in the default value of "2/28/2008." What a sneaky idea! Would never have thought of that. I tried it, and it
works. Thanks. "Dave Peterson" wrote in message ... If you enter something that looks like a date, but without a year, excel will assume you mean the current year that your pc shows. Also be aware that everything you do after changing the system time will
reflect that. For example if you change the system year from 2008 to 1995 and save a file, the file will show as having been saved in 1995. Also all other things that record time will reflect 1995 as long as the system time reflects 1995. Windows does a lot of recording things behind the scenes with the system time.
