Default Is an "IF" statement appropriate?

Hi all.

I want a formula that looks at another cell, and if that cell Begins
With "NPM" then return "Y".

Is an "IF" statement required, if so how will it read?
If not, what formula will do the job?

Regards,
Dave Moore

Try this

=IF(LEFT(A1,3)="NPM","Y","N")
