Default Dates in cells

I have formatted a cell for dates. When I enter a date it will put a = sign
in font of the date and will not display the correct date. it displays 1/0/00
as the date. How do I get raid of the = sign.

Tools Options Transition uncheck both Transition formula evanuation and
Transition formula entry
